Soluble in ethanol, chloroform and two oxygen six ring, slightly soluble in water, benzene, petroleum ether and acetone, ethyl acetate. Sixteen alkylpyridinium bromide is used as a bactericide and corrosion inhibitor in the treatment of industrial circulating cooling water. Compound with citral can inhibit the growth of some pathogenic fungi.
