Iodomethane is a halogenated hydrocarbon whose molecular formula is CH3I,MeI,

which is substitute for methane. At room temperature, a high density volatile liquid

with a dipole moment of 1.59D and a refractive index of 1.5304 (20 ℃ / D) of

1.5293 (21 ℃ / D) is obtained. Iodomethane can be mixed with common organic

solvents, pure products colorless, exposed to sunlight will decompose iodine simple

substance with purple, iodomethane can be removed by adding metal copper. A

small amount of iodomethane is present in rice fields. Iodomethane is a commonly

used methylation reagent in organic synthesis.
